Chapter one

A little ranch. An extraordinary story.

A curious young explorer, an overlooked sheep and a talking crumb of manna discover the Bible as one extraordinary story. Every episode helps kids explore the whole Bible and know and love the God who wrote it.

The curious explorer

Jax

Curious, quick, brave and wonderfully imperfect. Life on the ranch is full of questions, and Jax can't resist a good mystery, especially the ones hidden in God's Word.

The beloved outsider

Barley

A little sheep with floppy, pink-lined ears and chunky ivory wool. Barley never says a word and never needs to: loyal, expressive and always right beside Jax.

Barley is a reminder that the Good Shepherd never overlooks a single sheep.

Tiny confidence. Big heart.

Crumb

A talking crumb of manna, the bread God sent from heaven. Crumb is fast, funny and a whole lot braver than anything that small should be. Just please, no sliced-bread jokes.

Papa Ellis

Warm, wise and quietly funny. Papa Ellis runs the ranch, keeps the lantern lit and always has time for one more question. The kind of grown-up every kid needs in their corner.

One big story. Every page points to Jesus.

    In the beginning

    God makes everything, and he makes people in his own image.

  2. Genesis 3

    The big break

    People choose their own way and sin breaks the world. But God promises a rescuer.

    A promise to Abraham

    God promises to bless every family on earth through Abraham's family.

  4. Exodus 14

    Through the sea

    God parts the sea and leads his people out of slavery to freedom.

  5. 2 Samuel 7

    A forever King

    God promises King David a son whose kingdom will never end.

  6. Isaiah 9 & 53

    The prophets

    God's messengers point ahead to a Savior who will carry our sin.

  7. Luke 2

    Jesus is born

    God's own Son comes to earth as a baby in Bethlehem.

    The cross and the empty tomb

    Jesus dies in our place to pay for our sin, and on the third day he rises again.

    God's family grows

    The Holy Spirit comes, and the good news spreads to every nation.

What we believe

Jax & Barley exists to help kids explore the whole Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, and to know and love the God who wrote it. Here's what we believe and what guides every episode we make.

The Apostles' Creed

For nearly 2,000 years, Christians around the world have summed up the heart of the faith with these words. We believe them too:

We believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he shall come to judge the living and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.

The Bible

We believe the Bible, as originally given, is the inspired, infallible Word of God. It is completely true and is the final authority for what we believe and how we live. That's why every episode quotes Scripture word for word, stays faithful to what the text actually says, and never adds to God's words.

God

We believe there is one God who eternally exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He is the Creator of all things, perfectly good, all-powerful, all-knowing, and full of love.

Jesus

We believe Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross in our place to pay for our sin, rose bodily from the dead, and will return one day to make all things new. The whole Bible points to him.

People and Sin

We believe every person is made in the image of God and has great worth. We also believe every person has sinned and is separated from God, and cannot fix that on their own.

Salvation

We believe salvation is a free gift of God's grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ, not earned by our good works. Anyone, of any age, who turns from sin and trusts in Jesus is forgiven and becomes part of God's family forever. That's why every episode ends with a simple invitation for kids to receive that gift.

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit lives in every follower of Jesus, helping us understand God's Word, grow to be more like Jesus, and live for him.

The Church

We believe the church is God's family, made up of every follower of Jesus across every nation and generation. We believe kids grow best in faith alongside their parents and a local church, and our show is designed to support both, never to replace them.

Our Approach

Our show teaches what Christians have always held in common. On questions where faithful, Bible-believing Christians disagree (such as the age of the earth or the details of end times), we stay close to what the text says and encourage families to explore those questions with their parents and local church.
